About the role
We are looking for a reliable, hands-on Handy Person / Driver to take responsibility for the day-to-day running, cleaning and maintenance of a residential building set within its own grounds. This is a varied role for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment, enjoys helping residents and can confidently manage general maintenance tasks with minimal supervision.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out daily visual inspections of the building, communal areas and grounds, identifying issues and arranging or completing appropriate action.
- Keep communal areas and external grounds clean, tidy and well maintained, including sweeping, litter picking and basic grounds maintenance.
- Manage the bin store, including moving bins for collection and reporting bulk items left in the area.
- Prepare flats for new residents moving in.
- Respond to tenants’ queries and assist them where required.
- Complete general maintenance and decorative work in communal areas and flats.
- Carry out minor repairs to appliances and plumbing, redecoration and end-of-warranty snagging.
- Undertake regular statutory checks, including fire alarm systems, emergency lighting and fire doors.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout communal areas, including hallways, stairs, lifts, windows, doors and other shared spaces.
- Communicate daily with the managing agent and support the wider team as required.
- Assist with furniture moves and provide holiday cover or support at other buildings when needed.
- Be willing to support out-of-hours call-outs.

- Has a good general maintenance background and can carry out basic repairs.
- Has decorating skills and is happy to undertake cleaning duties.
- Has excellent customer-facing and communication skills.
- Takes a positive, flexible and proactive approach to their work.
- Is willing to go the extra mile to maintain high standards.
- Has previous experience in a similar caretaker or maintenance role.
- Is willing to assist or travel to other buildings when required.
- Is willing to support out-of-hours call-outs.
