We are looking for a Fibre Engineer with a salary up to £32K. This is a stable, dependable company which works with the biggest UK telecom clients.
Job Purpose
To assist the Operational team, undertaking day-to-day job requirements of FTTH and FTTP. You would work directly in communication with the customer as part of a one or two-man team depending on the work stream.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting Fibre Coach with leading testing potential fibre routes and installing fibre infrastructure in underground networks.
- Preparing cable sheath to enter Closure / Micro Closures / CDC / Wall box.
- The Routing of fibres within closures / CDC and Transport Tubes as per a splicing schedule.
- Preparing fibres for splicing.
- Confident in the use and basic maintenance of a Works tablet, fibre splicing machine, OTDR, Power Meter, Fibre Identifier and Micro Scope.
- Splicing within loss limits.
- Dressing the fibre and closing the Closure / CDC to the manufacturers' instructions.
- Supporting restraining and labelling of trays and cables.
- Disposing of scrap fibres and cable safely.
- To be confident in reading and understanding the test results for troubleshooting purposes.
- Strong communication skills are absolutely essential; ability to communicate between co-workers and third parties.
- Be able to judge minor changes within a network and report those changes to the Fibre Coach and Fibre Manager.
Education/Qualifications
- NRSWA unit 2.
- Open reach accredited pole certification, SA001, SA002, NRSWA, IPAF, Smart card desirable.
- Demonstrable experience with a proven track record working in a networking engineering environment, in a senior engineering role.
- Advanced knowledge of FTTP and FTTH technologies.
- Operations and maintenance of metro/long-haul optical transmission Networks, DWDM and SDH or SONET technologies.
- Working with optical transmission equipment from well-established sources.
- Sound ability to diagnose problems with existing equipment and fix faults up to resolution.
- Ability to communicate fluently with customers and should possess good customer service skills.
