We are seeking a seasoned and talented Web Engineer with a strong background in payments, web development, and JavaScript to join a focused feature team of three engineers. As part of the newly formed Revenue Group Web Team, you will own the web surfaces, desktop and mobile web that bring SoundCloud's ads and payments products to life for millions of users. Your work will support us on our mission: deliver the web infrastructure and features that fuel SoundCloud’s revenue engine. Better ad experiences keep users listening longer. Seamless checkout flows drive subscription growth. Our work directly impacts both the health of the business and the experience of every SoundCloud fan and creator.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain user-facing web features that support ads, subscriptions, and creator commerce.
- Work pragmatically within a large, established codebase, incrementally modernising legacy areas while shipping new features.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and other web teams.
- Contribute to the development of new ad formats (display, video, audio pods) and ad experimentation frameworks.
- Develop and optimise checkout and payment flows that are secure, accessible, and conversion-driven.
- Participate in technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and roadmap planning.
- Ensure performance, scalability, and maintainability of SoundCloud’s web surfaces.
- Debug complex issues across systems and browsers, ensuring a consistent experience for users globally.
- Advocate for best practices in accessibility, testing, and front-end performance.
Background and Experience:
- 4–6 years of professional experience building modern web applications.
- Deep knowledge of TypeScript, React, and modern web tooling (e.g., Next.js, Vite).
- Ability to analyse and optimise web application performance, including identifying and addressing bottlenecks and implementing performance enhancements.
- Solid grasp of web performance, accessibility, and responsive design principles.
- Experience integrating payments, ads, or other complex third-party SDKs/APIs.
- A product-oriented perspective—you care about the “why,” not just the “how.”
- Experience with observability tools and techniques, such as logging, monitoring, and error tracking, to ensure high availability and performance.
- A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills.
Bonus points for:
- Experience with experimentation or A/B testing frameworks.
- Familiarity with ad tech or payments systems (Recurly, Adyen, etc.).
- Experience contributing to large-scale web performance or monetisation projects.
