REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

LOCATION: Inverness

HOURS: 40 per week, 0800 to 1630 Monday to Friday, 30 minute unpaid break. 12 hour shift pattern during harvest period (mid Aug-Oct). Possible call out requirement on a rota basis, likely 1 week in 5. Position holder must be located within 30 minutes of the plant. No holidays allowed during harvest period.

Summary

Responsible to the Maintenance Manager for the operation and maintenance of all mechanical equipment to ensure the required levels of malt production are achieved, in accordance with good practice standards and corresponding legislation. Provide call out cover for out of hours breakdowns, on a rota-based system. Be flexible to aid all on-site personnel as required. All employees must adhere to the zero drink and drugs policy and wear all personal protective equipment required on site.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and non-routine maintenance, including breakdown rectification at the Inverness malting using best practice regimes.
  • Liaise with malting management to report any obvious maintenance anomalies and to be familiar with the latest instructions and procedures.
  • Complete maintenance paperwork in line with company procedures.
  • Recommend alterations and improvements for enhanced operation.
  • Contribute to the installation and commissioning of new equipment and plant.
  • Provide assistance and work flexibly (with due regard to competence, capability and knowledge) with site staff and tradesmen.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within and around the engineering workshops and engineering stores.
  • Ensure personal development by keeping up to date with new technologies appropriate to own skills.
  • Carry out other duties from time to time that may be reasonably requested.

Essential Qualifications: Time served or able to demonstrate sufficient relevant experience

Skills/Abilities:

  • Mechanical installation & inspection
  • Plant equipment maintenance & repair
  • Welding/fabrication
  • Basic electrical skills i.e. fault finding, part replacement, electrical connections
  • Able to follow procedures
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • Team player
  • Willing to learn/train in various areas relating to the position

Working Knowledge:

Able to demonstrate practical experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance, particularly relating to an industrial scale production environment, including:

  • Handling Systems, Bucket Elevators, Belt Conveyors, Screws, Diverters etc.
  • Motors, Inverter Drives, Soft Start systems
  • Pumps, water processing & pressure systems
  • Gearboxes and drive gear
  • Bearings

Desirable Qualifications:

CMC (or knowledge of malting process).

Skills/Abilities:

  • Self motivated and able to work under own initiative
  • Adaptable
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Qualified to operate a forklift truck/MEWP or prepared to train
