We’re looking for an experienced and driven Remortgage Manager to lead our growing Remortgage Department at Sort Legal. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced conveyancing leader to take ownership of a high-performing remortgage function within one of the UK's most innovative conveyancing businesses. Working closely with the Head of Legal Practice, you'll be responsible for leading the department, driving operational performance, developing your people, and ensuring exceptional service delivery for clients, introducers, and lenders.

You will combine strong technical conveyancing expertise with proven leadership skills to create a high-performing culture focused on quality, compliance, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading the day-to-day operations of the Remortgage Department, ensuring productivity, quality and service levels are consistently achieved.
  • Managing, coaching and developing a team of Remortgage Case Handlers, Paralegals and Assistants.
  • Monitoring departmental performance, capacity and workloads to ensure Service Level Agreements are achieved.
  • Conducting regular one-to-ones, performance reviews and Personal Development Plans.
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding and succession planning across the department.
  • Providing technical guidance on complex conveyancing matters and acting as the escalation point for legal and operational queries.
  • Conducting file audits to ensure legal competency, quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitoring departmental Management Information (MI), identifying trends and implementing improvements to maximise productivity and efficiency.
  • Producing operational reports and performance updates for the Head of Legal Practice.
  • Managing holiday planning, absence management and departmental resource allocation.
  • Acting as the primary escalation point for client and introducer complaints, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Working closely with HR on performance management, disciplinary and grievance matters.
  • Supporting operational projects, process improvements and wider business initiatives.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with lenders, introducers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensuring compliance with lender requirements, CLC/SRA regulations, AML legislation, Cyber Security obligations and Data Protection requirements.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years' conveyancing experience, with significant exposure to remortgage transactions.
  • Previous experience leading or managing a conveyancing team within a high-volume environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge across freehold, leasehold and unregistered remortgage matters, including Transfers of Equity and transactions subject to existing mortgages.
  • Ability to support and mentor colleagues on complex legal matters.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching and people management skills.
  • Proven experience of improving operational performance through effective management and continuous improvement.
  • Experience analysing Management Information (MI) to drive business performance.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workloads, resources and competing priorities.
  • Experience conducting file audits and monitoring legal competency.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Confident handling client and introducer complaints as an escalation point.
  • Strong IT skills, including previous experience using Case Management Systems.
  • Thorough understanding of the CLC Code of Conduct, SRA regulations, HM Land Registry requirements, AML legislation, Cyber Security and Data Protection.
  • Licensed Conveyancer or Solicitor status would be advantageous, although not essential for candidates with the relevant experience.

Where you’ll be:

This role can be based from either our Derby or South Shields office, working closely with the Head of Legal Practice and leading a growing Remortgage Department within one of the UK's most progressive conveyancing businesses. Hybrid working opportunities may be available depending on business requirements.

Up to £60,000, depending on experience. Ongoing leadership development and career progression opportunities within a growing legal services group.
