ENT Speciality Doctor/Consultant for Outpatients

SOPS Healthcare Ltd is seeking an experienced ENT Speciality Doctor or Consultant to conduct community-based outpatient clinics in Slough. Designed to reduce hospital workload by diverting less complex cases to community care, our clinic offers an exceptional environment focused entirely on outpatient diagnosis and management. You will manage general adult and paediatric ENT presentations, perform routine clinic procedures and deliver evidence-based care within NHS pathways. We offer a highly competitive remuneration of up to £1,800 per day (variable, calculated on a per-patient basis) with flexible sessional scheduling.

Main duties of the job

  • Conduct outpatient consultations for adult and paediatric general ENT conditions.
  • Perform routine clinic procedures.
  • Formulate evidence-based management plans in alignment with NHS care pathways.
  • Maintain clinical throughput in accordance with agreed list capacity.
  • Complete electronic medical records and send consultation outcomes to referring GPs.
  • Carry out related administrative activities for investigations and onward referrals.

Job responsibilities

Primary Accountabilities

Clinical Duties

  • Perform clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and non-surgical management of general ENT conditions.
  • Perform minor outpatient procedures, specifically microsuction and flexible nasendoscopy.
  • Adhere to local NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) clinical guidelines and referral pathways.
  • Provide clear clinical recommendations and communication to patients.

We medically manage and treat ENT conditions commonly presenting in the population of the Thames Valley ICB. This service is applicable to both adults and children. These are common conditions that will need to be treated:

  • Glue Ear
  • Recurrent otitis media
  • Vertigo
  • Tinnitus
  • Otitis externa
  • Recurrent tonsillitis
  • Adenoid hypertrophy
  • Epistaxis
  • Deviated nasal septum
  • Rhinitis
  • Nasal Polyps
  • Chronic sinusitis
  • Globus Pharyngeus
  • Dysphonia
  • Ear and nose skin lesions

Operational & Governance Duties

  • Complete accurate electronic patient records and send GP outcome letters on the day of consultation.
  • Participate in clinic quality assurance, clinical audits, and incident reporting protocols.
  • Escalate complex cases requiring secondary or surgical care to local acute trusts when appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registration & Qualifications:
  • Full GMC Registration with a License to Practice in the UK.
  • Personal Indemnity
  • Evidence of Mandatory Training
  • Minimum of 2 years Appraisal Evidence
  • On the GMC Specialist Register for Otolaryngology OR MBBS (or equivalent) with relevant postgraduate ENT training (e.g., DOHNS, MRCS-ENT).

Desirable

  • Prior experience within NHS community outpatient services or independent sector providers.
  • Proficiency with NHS digital systems and electronic referral platforms.

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of dedicated clinical experience in ENT (Specialty Doctor, SAS Doctor, Registrar, GPwSI, or Consultant level).
  • Autonomous competence in running ENT outpatient clinics.
  • Demonstrated procedural competence in ear micro-suction and flexible nasendoscopy.
