Job Summary:

Credit Controller, you will be responsible for managing the company's credit control function, ensuring the timely collection of outstanding debts while maintaining strong customer relationships. You will actively manage credit risk, support cash flow optimisation, monitor customer creditworthiness, and work collaboratively across departments to minimise bad debt and maximise working capital performance.

Location:

Based at Hadleigh, Suffolk, occasional travel to other sites across the UK may be required. During the training period travel daily to Witham is essential, this could be up until end of March 2027.

Hybrid and Flexible working, 25 days holiday plus Christmas shutdown (3 days of holiday to be reserved for Christmas closure).

Main Tasks of the Job:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing customer creditworthiness using financial information, credit reports and credit insurance guidelines.
  • Implement effective debt collection strategies to recover outstanding debts through proactive telephone and email communication.
  • Ensuring sales ledger accounts are within their agreed credit terms. Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to balance commercial opportunities with credit risk management.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers by telephone and email to ensure invoices are clear for payment, maintaining an accurate record of all actions.
  • Liaise with aftercare to ensure fast resolution of customer disputes/queries to facilitate payment. Understanding how and when to elevate these.
  • Ensure that on hold accounts, prevention and credit exceedance procedures are adhered to.
  • Produce reports on aged debt, presenting regular credit control reports to management. Monitoring and reducing aged debt in line with company targets (DSO).
  • Provide cash collection forecasts and anticipated receipts analysis.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for improving credit control processes.
  • Undertake additional duties as reasonably requested by management.
  • The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation. Key Responsibilities:

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience within construction, manufacturing or distribution sectors would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a credit control role is essential.
  • Ability to analyse financial information and assess customer credit risk is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong relationship management and able to make independent decisions.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Previous experience managing debt alongside credit insurance, is desirable.
  • Team player who can communicate effectively with clients and colleagues. Problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent telephone manner.
  • Strong organisational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Able to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
  • Competent knowledge of MS Office including outlook and Excel.
