Overview
As a Senior Storage and Backup Engineer in Sopra Steria’s Aerospace, Defence and Security sector, you lead and shape our storage and backup capabilities. You will own NetApp ONTAP administration and Veeam-based backup workflows, guiding a Storage & Backup team. The role combines hands-on engineering with line management, and offers exposure to high-security projects with SC clearance. You will work across sites, shaping rapid recovery and storage efficiency in a critical government-focused environment.

Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and administer NetApp ONTAP devices and clusters (AFF, FAS, E-Series)
- Manage NAS/SAN provisioning, LUN creation, NFS/SMB shares, and SVMs
- Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and storage optimisation
- Administer Veeam Backup & Replication (design, scheduling, retention, repository mgmt)
- Integrate Veeam with NetApp for snapshot-based backups and rapid recovery workflows
- Assess effort and cost for implementations
- Line management of the Storage and Backup Tower
Key requirements
- Extensive experience in Infrastructure Management
- Experience deploying, configuring, and administering NetApp ONTAP
- Knowledge of NAS/SAN provisioning, LUN creation, NFS/SMB shares, and SVMs
- Veeam Backup & Replication administration experience
- Experience integrating Veeam with NetApp for snapshot-based backups and rapid recovery workflows
- Experience ensuring backup/storage platforms meet regulatory, encryption, retention, and audit requirements
- Leadership / team management
- Ability to work under tight SLAs
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams
