Join NHS Shared Business Services as a Category Manager and make a measurable difference.

This is more than procurement - it’s impact! This role is the lead for environment related activity and strategy in NHS Shared Business Services. It is responsible for setting and leading on the carbon reduction strategy, advising, and delivering on our Science Based Net-Zero by 2040 targets alongside working with our group organisation Sopra Steria to align and streamline carbon reduction activity. Your work will influence how NHS organisations source smarter, operate more efficiently, and ultimately reinvest savings into patient care.

Alongside internal delivery, this role will be the lead for our customer focused deliver on scope 3 carbon tracking. This supports the management of a data manager to oversee, lead and deliver a pipeline of opportunity in 2027 and beyond.

We also believe great work starts with balance. That’s why this role is primarily home-based, monthly team meet-ups in Salford, and occasional travel for collaboration and industry events.

What you will be doing:

  • Supporting with the strategic framework delivery plan.
  • Handling supplier enquiries and taking ownership of the database pipelines.
  • Supporting the Principal Category Manager with acquiring key data and building market awareness.
  • Leading on marketing of the framework using various routes to market.
  • Contract management of suppliers through engagement and supply chain compliance.
  • Supporting uptake of framework portfolio across the landscape, working alongside key internal teams.

What you’ll bring:

  • Procurement experience within the NHS or public sector.
  • Knowledge of UK Public Contracts Regulations (either PCR 2015 or PA 2023).
  • Experience of developing and improving key supplier relationships and exploring new opportunities.
  • Environmental category management knowledge/experience.
  • Ability to deliver a portfolio of projects as agreed with NHS SBS client stakeholders, meeting expectations and timelines.
  • CIPS Level 4, working towards or willing to undertake.
