NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) is a joint venture between Sopra Steria and the NHS, delivering critical business support and transformation services. Our strategy is focused on transformation and growth—expanding existing platforms, developing new service propositions, and supporting the NHS to meet its most complex workforce and operational challenges.
As the Employment Services Solutions Director, you will play a pivotal leadership role in growing and evolving our Employment Services portfolio across the NHS with a particular focus on HR capability. You will need to have strong experience in building HR capability, leading change management initiatives, leveraging HR analytics to shape strategy, driving talent management, and delivering an exceptional employee experience. You will work closely with Business Development Directors, Account Directors, and senior NHS stakeholders to shape, position, and sell innovative workforce and HR solutions.

We know that experienced professionals value balanced working too. That’s why we fully support flexible working, with 2/3 monthly collaboration meet‑ups in our Southampton, London and Leeds offices and occasional travel to client sites. The rest of your time will be spent working remotely.
What you will be doing:

- Drive profitable revenue growth through new business, upsell, and cross‑sell opportunities across Employment Services and the wider NHS SBS portfolio.
- Lead the end‑to‑end solution lifecycle, including discovery, solution shaping, business case development, and benefits articulation.
- Identify gaps in the current Employment Services offering and develop new workforce and HR propositions aligned to NHS priorities and market demand.
- Co‑create integrated, system‑level workforce solutions with ICT partners, embedding Employment Services within multi‑service offers.
- Work collaboratively across Sales, Consulting, Product, Service Delivery, Commercial, and Marketing teams to ensure joined‑up solutions and messaging.
- Build internal capability by supporting colleagues to confidently articulate Employment Services propositions.
- Maintain strong insight into NHS workforce trends, policy drivers, and emerging HR models, using this to inform strategic pipeline growth.
What you will bring:
- Strong commercial acumen, including pipeline management, opportunity qualification, and value proposition development.
- Proven success in solutions leadership, sales, or business development within HR, workforce, consultancy, or professional services.
- A strong track record of driving revenue growth, including new business, upsell, and cross‑sell activity.
- Experience engaging with senior NHS stakeholders (e.g. HRDs, Workforce Directors, CFOs, ICT leaders).
- Expertise in solution shaping, business case development, and value proposition design.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex workforce challenges into compelling, client‑focused solutions.
- Experience operating in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments, ideally within or alongside the NHS.
- Knowledge of NHS workforce challenges, shared services, HR service models, and digital or data‑enabled workforce solutions.
- Experience in consulting, workforce transformation, analytics, or digital HR services is highly desirable.
