We are currently recruiting for a Strategic Control Room Shift Lead to join our busy Information Centre which is at the heart of managing incidents on the National Highways strategic road network. We work together in a fast-paced, collaborative environment to make sure drivers stay informed and safe. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a role where no two days are the same and you play an integral part in minimising the effects of incidents on the UK road network. The ideal candidate will have a good working knowledge of a similar environment with some understanding or appreciation for people and resource leadership.
This is a 24/7 service so you will work on a shift pattern which comprises 6 days on and 4 days off, the 6 working days will see you doing 2 early shifts, 2 late shifts and 2 night shifts. The role will be based full time in the office in Birmingham (Quinton Business Park).

What you’ll be doing:

  • Communicate advancements in operating processes/procedures (from internal and external sources)
  • Ensure that all stakeholder and other interested parties are informed and consulted in accordance with agreed procedures
  • First line for identifying system faults and actioning service levels, liaising with Applications Support
  • Complete daily shift reports
  • Act as a Strategic Control Room Operator (SCRO) to assist with workload
  • Training of new starters
  • Assist with the development and reviewing of Strategic Traffic Operations documentation
  • Delivering NTIS overviews to visitors to NTOC
  • Support the Strategic Control Room Manager and Deputy Strategic Control Room Manager with the management of the Strategic

What you’ll Bring:

  • Knowledge of the National Highways Strategic Road network
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Strategic Traffic Management procedures and system used within the Information Centre
  • Competent time management of own workload under the pressure of a dynamic working environment
  • Effective team player, who constantly displays commitment and flexibility.
  • Articulate and able to maintain good relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Delivers a high-quality customer service in a professional manner, creating trust and confidence
