We are currently recruiting for a Strategic Control Room Operator to join our busy Information Centre which is at the heart of managing incidents on the National Highways strategic road network. We work together in a fast-paced, collaborative environment to make sure drivers stay informed and safe. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a role where no two days are the same and you play an integral part in minimising the effects of incidents on the UK road network.

This is a 24/7 service so you will work on a shift pattern which comprises 6 days on and 4 days off, the 6 working days will see you doing 2 early shifts, 2 late shifts and 2 night shifts. The role will be based full time in the office in Birmingham (Quinton Business Park).

What you’ll be doing:

  • Receive information from various sources about incidents on the Strategic Road Network (SRN), assess details and create/manage events on the National Traffic Information Service system
  • Manage NTIS-generated events
  • Assist customers by setting Variable Message Signs (VMS) across the SRN
  • Monitor traffic data to detect current events
  • Validate and manage automated roadwork events
  • Keep stakeholders informed in line with agreed procedures
