Looking to join a collaborative and supportive team? The role of Senior Legal Counsel delivers effective, efficient and business‑orientated legal services to Sopra Steria in relation to its business activities, to ensure that legal, governance and related issues are properly understood and factored into decision making. You will be given full authority within your role and empowered to deliver upon the day‑to‑day responsibilities. This is a hybrid role with occasional presence required in our London office.
What you'll be doing:
- Advise Sopra Steria managers on legal matters relevant to its business to ensure that legal, governance and related issues are properly understood and factored into decision making.
- Working across a generalist portfolio, covering both internal corporate and external customer‑facing legal issues, including but not limited to public sector tenders, dispute resolution strategy and litigation, data protection, employment, compliance, regulatory and governance etc, where appropriate, working closely with the Deputy Legal Director and wider Legal team.
- Legal advisor on large business transactions, responsible for analysing contract documents, including major customer standard forms, providing advice on and draft responses to proposed terms of business, drafting new agreements, amendments and other documentation, negotiating agreements and other documentation, all to ensure that legal, governance and related issues are properly understood and factored into decision making.
- Contribute to managing Legal Services Department drive change to match (and lead) the company as it changes, drive continuous improvement in line with internal client expectations.
- Instruct and manage external counsel for the company as appropriate to ensure best value and quality of service.
- Contribute to central function management meetings and decisions to keep up to date with business developments requiring legal input and to ensure that legal and governance matters are taken into account by Sopra Steria managers.
- Promote, organise and deliver education and awareness on relevant legal issues for Sopra Steria people so that people have an understanding of legal issues appropriate to their responsibilities.
- Participate in decisions on strategy, commercial policy and specific commercial transactions to ensure that legal, governance and related issues are properly understood and factored in.
What you’ll bring:
- Qualified to practise law in the country or in another common law jurisdiction.
- Registered Lawyer with at least five years’ experience of advising in a common law environment.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and advise on legal matters in the areas of business undertaken by the company.
- Experienced commercial lawyer (in‑house or in private practice) with experience of public sector contracts and aptitude for leadership.
- Experience of legal or contract management practice.
- Experience of review and negotiation of SaaS agreements.
- Experience of dealing in IT contracts/outsourcing, data protection contracts and AI.
- Experience of public sector tender processes and contracts, and PCRs.
- Experience of leading negotiations of high‑value contracts in the Sopra Steria areas of business.
It would be great if you had:
- Previous experience of legal practice in a Consultancy led organisation.
