Are you an Infrastructure Engineer looking for a new challenge? Sopra Steria is delivering a unique solution from the ground up for the Defence sector, integrating infrastructure and applications within highly secure, mission‐critical environments. As part of this team, you will work with an established team to provide second‐line support and deliver key infrastructure activities including installation, maintenance and optimisation. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys technical ownership, solving complex problems and working in an environment where no two days are quite the same. This role requires the person to be on site full time in Hertfordshire. Ideally, you would be holding an active MoD DV, however, we are considering candidates who hold an active SC and would be willing to obtain.

What you will be doing:

  • Deploying and integrating hardware and software across server, network, storage and desktop environments for use within the programme infrastructure.
  • Testing deliverables, documenting results, and identifying, triaging and reporting faults where required.
  • Administering, maintaining and enhancing the environment to improve performance, supportability and overall service quality.
  • Providing second and third line support, working within agreed SLA structures to resolve or elevate issues appropriately.
  • Delivering tasks in line with the project plan, including timelines, locations, deliverables and associated administration, while accurately estimating effort in line with standard processes and procedures.
  • Maintaining and updating operational procedures, user documentation, records, databases and asset information, while keeping the Team Leader and Project Manager informed of progress.

What you will bring:

  • Knowledge of infrastructure engineering within a specialist technology area, including the tools, techniques and methods used to support and maintain secure environments.
  • Experience working as an Infrastructure or Field Engineer across small to medium‐sized IT projects.
  • Hands‐on experience in infrastructure administration, hardware deployment, and fault diagnosis and resolution across core services and end‐point technologies.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision, delivering effective support in customer‐facing environments and within tight SLA targets.
  • Experience in infrastructure management, with desirable knowledge of secure data centre controls, UK Government compliance standards, and technologies such as file/print clusters, enterprise thin client environments and messaging systems.

It would be great if you had:

  • Knowledge of ITIL Service Management processes and practices.
  • Accreditation to MCP level or equivalent.
  • Customer service skills and experience of dealing and resolving complex issues. Should be able to demonstrate customer service excellence.
  • Experience of reporting to various management levels, both internal and external.
  • Experience of working within an agreed SLA framework, and the monitoring of associated KPIs.

If you are interested in this role but not sure if your skills and experience are exactly what we're looking for, please do apply, we’d love to hear from you!
