Sopra Steria is delivering a unique solution from the ground up for the Defence sector, integrating infrastructure and applications within highly secure, mission‑critical environments. This is an opportunity to make a genuine impact, contribute to complex technical solutions, and work on a nationally significant programme that few organisations can offer exposure to.
We are looking for a Lead Infrastructure Engineer to oversee the day‑to‑day technical operations of the Windows Team, reporting to the Head of Operating Systems. This is a key leadership role with direct influence on operational performance, service quality and profitability. You will provide both technical expertise and people leadership, helping to shape the team’s capability while ensuring the successful delivery of infrastructure services and project outcomes. For someone motivated by purpose, scale, and technical complexity, this role offers the chance to see their work directly contribute to outcomes that really matter. This role requires full‑time, on‑site working in Hertfordshire. Ideally, you will hold active MoD DV clearance; however, we will also consider candidates who hold active SC clearance and are willing to undergo DV clearance.
What you will be doing:
- Lead, manage and mentor the Windows Team, developing individual capability and building a strong SME structure.
- Support project delivery, including solution design, estimation, detailed design and implementation activities.
- Ensure services are delivered in line with agreed SLAs, including resolving or escalating issues where appropriate.
- Produce and maintain operational and user documentation to ensure standards and consistency are met.
- Work with Architects, Solution Designers and Project Managers to validate solutions, provide recommendations and report progress.
- Contribute to pre‑sales activity and ensure all team outputs are fully documented in line with governance standards.
What you will bring:
- Expert knowledge of Windows and infrastructure technologies, including current best practice and future developments.
- Strong enterprise infrastructure experience, including administration, fault finding, diagnosis and resolution.
- Technical knowledge across key infrastructure areas such as file and print, thin client environments, messaging, virtualisation and hardware.
- Proven experience of leading infrastructure projects using recognised project management methodologies such as PRINCE2 or PMI.
- Experience of working to demanding SLAs within a strong governance and compliance framework.
- Extensive infrastructure management experience, supported by a Diploma in Computer Science or equivalent relevant experience.
