This is an opportunity to make a genuine impact, contribute to complex technical solutions, and work on a nationally significant programme that few organisations can offer exposure to.

As a Field Engineer, you will work with the Project Manager and report to the Team Lead. You will join a team of SMEs responsible for deploying IT systems and end‑user devices across multiple UK sites. This is a hands‑on role involving extensive travel in line with the project delivery plan. You will also provide second‑and third‑line support, as well as carry out the installation, maintenance, technical implementation and performance optimisation of infrastructure technologies. For someone motivated by purpose, scale, and technical complexity, this role offers the chance to see their work directly contribute to outcomes that really matter. The role is based in Hemel Hempstead, with extensive travel across the UK and regular overnight stays where required.

What you will be doing:

  • Deploy and configure hardware and software across server, network, storage and desktop environments.
  • Carry out integration, testing and validation of hardware and software deliverables, documenting outcomes accurately.
  • Administer, maintain and enhance the IT environment to ensure ongoing performance and supportability.
  • Provide second‑and third‑line support, including fault identification, triage, resolution and escalation in line with SLAs.
  • Deliver tasks in accordance with project plans, including timelines, locations, deliverables and project procedures.

What you will bring:

  • Strong infrastructure engineering experience, including hardware deployment, core services, endpoint installation, fault finding, diagnosis and resolution.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while supporting the successful delivery of small to medium‑sized IT projects.
  • Experience working in a customer support environment, with the ability to deliver to tight SLAs and maintain high service standards.
  • Strong documentation skills, including the production of end‑user guidance and operational procedure documentation.
  • Knowledge of secure installation standards and compliance requirements for UK Government environments, including JSPs, SCIDA/CIDA and TEMPEST.

It would be great if you had:

  • Experience with File/Print Clusters an advantage, enterprise level thin client environments an advantage, messaging systems an advantage, working to tight SLA’s.
  • Experience with controls around installing equipment in a secure datacenter.

If you are interested in this role but not sure if your skills and experience are exactly what we’re looking for, please do apply, we’d love to hear from you!
