Role Summary
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead the Enrichment and AI Insights team within our XDR platform. Your team's mission is to enrich security data with threat intelligence and contextual insights, helping customers and analysts understand complex threats through natural language interfaces and AI‑powered explainers.
Following the acquisition of Secureworks in early 2025, Sophos is expanding its security operations platform with identity threat detection, next‑gen SIEM, and deeper AI‑driven capabilities - making this a particularly exciting time to shape the direction of the enrichment and AI work.
You will manage a distributed team of engineers across India and North America, responsible for backend and data engineering systems operating at massive scale - processing trillions of events per week across a multi‑petabyte data platform. This role requires someone who thrives in a remote‑first environment, can build strong relationships across time zones, and brings both technical depth and people leadership to a high‑impact security product.
What You Will Do
- Lead and develop a distributed engineering team across India and North America, building strong working relationships across time zones in a remote‑first environment
- Own delivery of data enrichment and AI initiatives, ensuring quality, reliability, and performance at scale
- Partner with product management and technical leadership to shape the roadmap for enrichment, AI insights, and natural language capabilities
- Evaluate architecture proposals and technical approaches, choosing a path that balances risk, roadmap goals, and maintainability
- Mentor and grow engineering talent, identifying development needs and creating career growth opportunities across the team
- Build relationships with MDR analysts, threat intelligence researchers, and platform engineers to understand customer needs and inform product direction
- Manage technical debt strategically, balancing remediation against product delivery while staying current with relevant developments in security, AI, and data engineering
- Understand how the team's work connects to product success and business priorities, and use that context to guide planning decisions
- Drive engineering quality by monitoring delivery metrics, improving processes, and coordinating with security teams
What You Will Bring
- 5+ years of engineering management experience with distributed teams, ideally in backend, data engineering, or platform domains
- Solid understanding of large‑scale data processing systems and cloud‑native architectures
- Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, and microservice‑based architectures - enough to guide your team's technical direction credibly
- Experience adapting delivery approaches to suit your team's context rather than following a framework by the book
- Track record of developing and mentoring engineering staff at various career stages
- Clear communicator who can bridge technical and non‑technical audiences
- Passion for building inclusive, collaborative team cultures in a remote‑first setting
Nice to have
- Experience in the cybersecurity domain, particularly threat intelligence, data enrichment, or security analytics
- Familiarity with AI/ML or natural language processing in a product context
- Experience with large‑scale data ingestion and enrichment pipelines
