The role involves providing US corporate tax advisory and compliance services to entrepreneurs, start-ups, scale-ups and mid-cap companies across a broad range of industries. You'll play an important part in delivering high-quality work and supporting the continued growth of this specialist service line.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Compliance: Oversee the completion of Forms 1065, 1120, 1120‑S, 1120‑F, 5471, 5472, 8858, 8865 and 926. Take ownership of financial management of the portfolio, including WIP management, billing targets and cash collection. Participate in developing and pursuing new clients, including preparing for and attending meetings and drafting follow‑up correspondence. Support marketing events and business development activities to help achieve the firm's goals, building an effective network and developing a strong personal profile internally and externally.
  • Workflow: Document and communicate workflow status to the team on a regular basis. Ensure all jobs are completed within specific budgets, keeping the Director informed of progress at all times.
  • Administration: Ensure timesheets are completed and submitted weekly. Keep WIP levels within set budgets and advise the Director of any potential overruns. Ensure productivity levels meet or exceed budget expectations. Uphold compliance with internal policies and professional standards.
  • Team Development & Training: Supervise and develop junior staff, taking an active role in maximising their performance and supporting the annual appraisal process. Assist junior staff in developing their understanding of relevant software packages, tax laws and statutory requirements. Contribute to creating a high-performance culture that reflects Sopher + Co's commitment to excellence and client care.

What you'll bring:

  • EA qualified, CPA or equivalent, with at least 5 years' experience in US corporate/partnership compliance.
  • Experience working with US tax rules relating to controlled foreign companies, passive foreign investment companies, FIRPTA and partnership taxation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, staff and management.
  • Advanced computer skills and solid working knowledge of relevant software.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • The ability to work with prestigious clients who require complete confidentiality.
  • Knowledge and experience of trusts is advantageous but not essential.
