Overview Sony Interactive Entertainment seeks a strategic, business-oriented attorney and leader to lead our legal support for the Global Sales and Business Operations (GSBO), including across North and South America and regional legal support for LATAM. This role reports to the Senior Director for Global Marketing Sales and Business Operations, Legal, and collaborates with the San Mateo, CA based legal team, global legal team, and outside counsel. You will lead a high-performing legal team supporting a wide range of commercial and strategic legal matters involving the sale and distribution of PlayStation video games, navigating the legal landscape of video game distribution, including compliance, contract negotiation, and strategic models. You will also oversee legal advice and support to SIE's channel sales teams in North and South America, including LATAM with offices in Brazil and Mexico, on a broad range of commercial matters across these regions. What You'll Be Doing
- Lead a global team of two attorneys and two paralegals supporting the GSBO and LATAM organizations.
- Provide strategic legal guidance and practical support to senior leadership, including the SVP of GSBO, VPs, Senior Directors, and their teams.
- Provide legal advice to SIE's business units in Latin America, including Brazil and Argentina, on a wide range of commercial legal issues in those territories.
- Draft and negotiate commercial contracts, distribution/retailer/partner agreements and vendor agreements, including contracts for SIE's subsidiaries in Brazil and Argentina.
- Provide general legal advice on business and commercial activities, including day-to-day operations, sales, distribution, marketing, advertising, consumer services, e-commerce, vendor engagement, consumer complaints and litigation.
- Meet regional leads regularly to discuss business objectives and legal support issues.
- Work with outside counsel to manage and make decisions on consumer complaint cases across LATAM, alongside legal team members.
- Monitor government affairs and regulatory developments in the region with Public Policy and relevant business line lawyers depending on topic.
- Work closely with the Senior Director, GMSBO Legal on direction and strategy.
- Partner with other subject matter experts within Legal to deliver comprehensive legal solutions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal clients and cross-functional stakeholders across business, legal, and corporate functions.
- Stay current on industry trends, relevant LATAM laws, and SIE's evolving business and technology landscape.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of relevant legal experience, including 3-4 years of in-house experience at a gaming, technology, or entertainment company.
- JD or LLM from an accredited law school; admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. California Bar membership preferred (or eligibility for California Registered In-House Counsel status).
- Deep experience in negotiating and drafting commercial agreements.
- Strong understanding of Latin American law, particularly Brazil and Argentina.
- Experience as a regional lead for Latin America is a plus.
- Written and spoken fluency in either Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese, preferably both.
- General litigation experience.
- Budget management experience.
- Experience overseeing and managing outside counsel.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills with a collaborative leadership style.
- Proven ability to influence and advise senior executives.
- Strategic thinker with a business-friendly mindset and practical approach to risk.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Passion for gaming, media, and technology industries.
- Knowledge of the video game ecosystem, including game economies and virtual currencies, is desirable.
