Overview

Sony UK Technology Centre Limited is the only manufacturing centre for Sony in Europe, and have over 500 highly skilled team players who help create some of the most advanced technology on the global market. The heart of today’s operation at Pencoed is centered on the manufacture of high technology Broadcast and Professional Cameras and Systems including the latest industry leading 4K technology. Alongside this, we provide contract manufacturing solutions for multiple non-Sony branded businesses. This collaborative approach to contract manufacturing has produced many commercial successes over the years, including the best-selling British computer of all time, the Raspberry Pi. Additionally, we are the home of a Sony customer service and solutions centre, a business incubation centre and much more.

Role Overview

Working as an Automation Engineer within the Engineering Department at Sony UK Technology Centre Limited (UKTec), the successful candidate will identify and assess viable process automation opportunities, and propose investments that deliver improvements in quality, technology, or cost-effectiveness. The role involves designing and developing automation equipment, as well as managing internal and/or subcontracted resources to deliver these solutions. Upon completion, the candidate will document the automated solution, conduct an evaluation, and facilitate a structured handover to the Production Engineering Team, which will then assume operational responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analytical Appraisal (SA, DA & PPA)
  • Project Management
  • Design of process flows
  • Contributing to Product design for manufacture (DFM)
  • 3D CAD system design (using SolidWorks or Inventor)
  • Evaluating Mechanical/Electrical Solution options
  • Robotics and Automation Development
  • Technical documentation creation
  • Appreciation of PLC program design
  • Appreciation of software & databases
  • A HND (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and have strong communication skills.
  • Available to occasionally travel internationally for periods generally between 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in technology.
  • Strong sense of accountability, willingness to develop new skills and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Knowledge in Mechanical Design and 3D CAD systems PLC programming and software.
  • An understanding of electronics or electrical control systems
  • Previous experience working within a manufacturing environment
