The role
We are looking for a software engineer to join our CPU Toolchain team to work on Sony’s Clang / LLVM-based compiler and linker, targeting the PlayStation platforms.
You will join an existing global team and supply by:
- Working upstream on open source Clang and LLVM-based technology, developing features, improving the performance and robustness of the CPU compiler and associated LLVM tools.
- Delivering production-quality compiler tools for various PlayStation platforms that will be used by game development studios worldwide.
- Working on features and releases specific to the needs of PlayStation.
What you’ll be doing
- Working within the toolchain engineering team, based in Bristol, UK. As a team we take an upstream-first mentality.
- Working with the open source community, where our team is one of the leading contributors to the LLVM open source project.
- Working with other PlayStation development teams across Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), such as the runtime libraries, debugger, profiler and distributed build system teams, to ensure successful integration with all other products.
What we are looking for
Must have:
- BSc in Computer Science, a similar degree or equivalent experience.
- Strong C and C++ development and debugging skills
- About 2 years\’ experience working in a commercial environment
- Familiarity with how assemblers, linkers, compilers, debuggers and performance analysis tools work
- Knowledge of x86 disassembly
- Strong communication skills; a good standard of spoken and written English
- Ability to work as part of a globally distributed team, participating in planning and design meetings, status reports, and code reviews
- Proficiency with git, python
Nice to have:
- Experience of LLVM development (or other production-quality development tools)
- Experience of working with the open-source community
- Knowledge of file formats such as ELF, DWARF
- Understanding of test-driven development
- Knowledge of compiler optimisations
- Knowledge of vectorisation, SIMD, low-level system development & OS internals
