Due to continued growth, we are recruiting graduate mechanical design engineers. Though not essential, someone with a year or two of industry experience would be more suited for the position. Sonomatic are a leading NDT company specialising in the design and development of advanced automated ultrasonic inspection solutions, supporting our worldwide NDT field service division. Projects typically range from bespoke ROV/Diver deployed automated inspections to topside remotely operated inspections. Our projects are always pushing the boundaries of inspection and robotics, whether it’s operating at 3000m in the sea off the shores of Brazil or dealing with the high temperatures at a refinery in the north of the UK.
The working environment is both exciting and satisfying with ample opportunities to learn and progress with a great balance between designing new components on CAD and building/testing the same components within our purpose-built state of the art workshop facility. As you gain experience you will have the rare opportunity to manage projects from initial concept through to subsea deployment.
Key responsibilities may include:
- R&D of bespoke solutions, prototyping, costing, design proposals
- CAD design and 2D drawings including GD&T and DFMA
- Assembly and testing of intricate mechanisms
- Use of inhouse 3D printers for prototyping/part manufacturing
- Liaising with external manufacturers including laser/waterjetters, CNC machinists, anodisers, fabricators
- Quality assurance and checking received components against specifications
- Engineering administration including risk assessments, purchasing, BOM, making operation manuals, timesheets
- Holding design reviews, and checking engineering drawings conform to specifications and industry standards
Essential Requirements:
- Degree qualified in a relevant field (mechanical, electro-mechanical)
- Mechanical design experience using a 3D CAD package such as Inventor, PTC Creo or SolidWorks
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Ability to self-manage time, and work to tight deadlines
- Ability to work methodically and meticulously with a “right first time” attitude
Desirable Requirements, depending on experience:
- Design experience of mechanical machinery, mechanical assembly, gear mechanisms, multi part assembly design and good materials knowledge
- Ability to create 2D drawings of complex parts/assemblies
- Experience with assembling of components within a workshop environment
- Experience managing projects from cradle to grave
- Experience with subsea electro-mechanical components
- CEng or IEng accreditation, or working towards
- Experience with PDM or PLM software such as Autodesk Vault, or SolidWorks PDM
