An exciting opportunity has arisen with Sonomatic for an experienced electronics engineer. This primarily a development role, where development of new equipment is the main task, but some support of legacy equipment is required. The ideal candidate will be an experienced electronics engineer who can work on their own initiative and is happy to impart their knowledge and experience on less experienced members of the company. They will be comfortable producing high-quality work whilst working under pressure.
Sonomatic are a leading NDT company specialising in the design and development of advanced automated ultrasonic inspection solutions, supporting our worldwide NDT field service division. Projects typically range from bespoke ROV/Diver deployed automated inspections, to topside remotely operated inspections. Our projects are always pushing the boundaries of inspection and robotics, whether it’s operating at 3000m in the sea off the shores of Brazil or dealing with the high temperatures at a refinery in the north of the UK. The working environment is both exciting and satisfying with ample opportunities to learn and progress.
Key responsibilities- Development and assembly of new equipment, consisting of: PCB design and manufacture.
- Fault finding at system and component level.
- Cable design and assembly.
- System Design
- Firmware development.
- General electronics tasks
- PCB assembly and test
- Systems assembly and test
- Support for legacy equipment
- Redesigning for parts obsolescence
- Good understanding of: Electronics theory, Motor drives and encoders, PCB design for noise suppression.
- Firmware development in C.
- Wired communications. RS485. Ethernet – knowledge of wiring standards and general networking are required.
- Use of diagnostic tools. DMM, Scope, Signal Generator.
- Component and system level fault finding.
- Hand soldering capabilities. THT and SMT. Rework.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to self-manage time, and work to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work methodically and meticulously with a “right first time” attitude.
- Prior experience using the following software packages: Proteus. MPLAB. TeraTerm.
- Experience of building equipment for subsea deployment.
