The REF Senior Data Analyst supports the REF Project Manager and wider REF team in the data collection, analysis and modelling of data to support preparations for the REF2029 submission. The postholder will assist in preparing components of the submission and in the administration of REF committees and groups. They will work with academic and professional services staff in the Faculties, ICT and the Library. Confidence in working with numerical data and experience in developing PowerBI dashboards are crucial to this role to support the University's delivery of a high-quality REF submission.
As our REF Senior Data Analyst you will be a key member of the central REF team and will work collaboratively to support four main areas of activity. You will be involved in providing data analysis and insights for the REF submission, including preparing briefings and updates and supporting the REF-related elements of the HESA staff return. You will work with ICT and data-holders to build and maintain reports and data dashboards to make data accessible to the relevant audiences within Imperial. You will support the committees and working groups associated with REF2029, maintaining a strong understanding of the guidance and criteria for REF. You will maintain an understanding of best practices in data management to ensure that data is handled appropriately and that all evidence is archived effectively for potential audit.
We are looking for a motivated and diligent individual with an interest in research evaluation, who will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong understanding of data management principles, including accuracy, consistency and integrity
- Knowledge of the funding and regulatory landscape in UK Higher Education
- Awareness of the Research Excellence Framework and related data requirements
- Knowledge of statistical methods and their use in data analysis
- Proven experience in data analysis, including working with large datasets and interpreting complex data
- Experience of working collaboratively to deliver shared goals, contributing to the delivery of complex projects
- Experience in drafting reports, briefing papers, or documentation related to data analysis or research outputs within an academic or research-focused environment
- Experience in providing administrative support to committees or governance structures
