Research Excellence Framework Project Manager in London

The REF Project Manager is a key part of the central REF team. They lead on project management and preparations for the REF2029 submission. They will use experience and judgement to analyse data, make recommendations, draft and edit components of the REF submission. The postholder will work with ICT and the Library to support the central Head of REF and Faculty REF Managers in database management, including for audit purposes. Excellent project management and communication skills are crucial to this role to ensure that a high-quality submission is delivered within the tight timeframe of the REF.

What you would be doing

• Act as a subject matter expert on REF policies and procedures and develop University-wide policies and procedures relating to REF2029.
• Manage the REF-related element of the annual HESA staff return.
• Lead the analysis of REF-related data, and design and oversee development of reports and data dashboards, working with colleagues across the University.
• Lead the development of institutional-level narrative statements, working closely with colleagues to support the development of disciplinary level evidence statements, ensuring consistency of approach.
• Take an active role in the governance, committees and working groups associated with REF2029.

What we are looking for

• A motivated and diligent individual with excellent project management and data analysis skills, and ideally with knowledge or experience of the Research Excellence Framework.
• Experience of co-ordinating and delivering complex projects with multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines.
• Experience of working with large datasets relevant to research outputs or institutional reporting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with data visualisation and dashboard development with PowerBI or equivalent relevant tools.
• Awareness of data management best practices, including audit and compliance requirements.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff at all levels.

This is a full-time role (35 hours per week) offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 July 2029.
