Clinical Research Fellow in London

We are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated Fellow to join a multidisciplinary team investigating the metabolic adaptation of Aspergillus fumigatus during human infection and its impact on innate and adaptive immune responses. This project combines high-throughput fungal phenotyping, metabolomics, and advanced immunological assays using ex vivo human models. The post offers an exceptional opportunity to work at the interface of fungal biology, immunology, and systems-level data analysis, contributing to a programme aimed at identifying mechanisms that underpin fungal survival and immune evasion in the lung.

What you would be doing:

• Support laboratory-based experiments investigating genomic-phenotypic correlates in fumigatus clinical and environmental isolates.
• Conduct high-dimensional immunophenotyping and fungal infection assays using human whole blood and primary alveolar macrophages.
• Integrate multi‑omic datasets (metabolic, phenotypic, immunological) using computational approaches to define host–pathogen interaction networks.
• Contribute to the design, execution, and interpretation of experimental work, ensuring rigorous data quality and reproducibility.
• Work closely with collaborating groups across the Faculty of Medicine, including mycology, immunology, and computational biology teams.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication, present findings at conferences, and contribute to grant development.
• Support supervision of students and junior researchers in the laboratory.

What we are looking for:

• Clinically qualified (MBBS or equivalent) GMC registration.
• Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, or equivalent.
• Significant clinical experience in general internal medicine and the management of infections.
• Understanding of good data management, reproducible research, research governance and responsible use of patient-linked datasets.
