The Department of Surgery and Cancer (S&C) is looking for a Laboratory Manager who will play a vital role in the administration and management of the S&C research laboratories predominantly at Chelsea & Westminster and Hammersmith Hospital Campuses. You will also support the Head of Division and PIs in the management of their Health and Safety (H&S) responsibilities. The post holder will be a member of the S&C H&S Compliance team, carrying out inspections of laboratories across the S&C sites.

The role is responsible for the overall management and smooth operation of laboratory facilities, including health and safety compliance, equipment maintenance, procurement, stock control and general day‑to‑day operational support across laboratories and offices. It involves maintaining equipment and infrastructure, coordinating refurbishments and relocations, and working with central departments (Estates, ICT, Finance and Safety) as required.

The post holder will lead on teaching, and training staff and students, ensuring safe and efficient laboratory practices. This includes delivering inductions, maintaining compliance, providing first‑line advice, resolving operational issues and liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including researchers, service providers and external contractors.

  • Strong record keeping skills to monitor and maintain critical compliance and operational records including safety documents, consumable stocks, equipment assets, services and repairs.
  • The ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, while delivering tasks to deadlines.
