The NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer post will be based within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and will provide four years of general training in obstetrics and gynaecology appropriate to the seniority and experience of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the strategic research programme of the Institute for Reproductive and Developmental Biology within the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction.

The academic training focus will be at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and will align with the NIHR BRC Pregnancy and Prematurity theme. Combining academic research with clinical training, the overarching goal is to implement a research strategy that will deliver new diagnostic and predictive tools, novel therapies and clinical management guidelines to improve overall outcomes for pregnant women and their children. The clinical component of the programme will satisfy the RCOG curriculum requirements to ensure comprehensive training. To ensure a broad mix of exposure to core and subspecialty services, clinical training will be provided across the hospitals affiliated with Imperial College including St Mary’s and Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea hospital. Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital is a tertiary referral centre with a regional referral unit for in‑utero and ex‑utero transfers and is a leading neonatal unit in the UK. There is an active postgraduate training program with weekly seminars, journal clubs, teaching ward rounds, and twice a year audit meeting.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate pre-existing interest and experience in the management of preterm birth, and women defined as being at risk of preterm birth. MRCOG Part 2 at minimum. Evidence of ability to obtain external research funding. A record of high quality publications in peer reviewed journals. Experience of dealing with patients at risk of preterm birth, patient and public involvement groups.
