The Chain Florey “Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship” is specifically designed as a stepping stone for clinician scientists aiming to secure external intermediate or independent fellowships. It provides up to 24 months of protected research time, mentorship, and access to world-leading research groups at the LMS to generate preliminary data and develop a highly competitive external fellowship application. This award addresses an important gap in clinical academic career progression between post-doctoral or clinical lecturer posts and becoming an independent research scientist.
What you would be doing
The role provides post holders with protected research time (80% research; 20% clinical time for maintenance of competency) for up to 24 months to develop a highly competitive application to national governmental and/or charitable funders underpinned by preliminary data. A full mentorship programme will be provided to support the Fellow. This opportunity is aimed at individuals who fulfil the essential requirements listed in the person specification and show outstanding potential to become a leader in clinical translational medicine.
What we are looking for
Applicants must have been awarded a PhD and hold a CCT or will obtain CCT within the next 12 months (or equivalent) at the time of application. Awards are up to 2 years duration undertaking full time research, with the option of maintaining clinical work during 1 day per week (with the expectation that there will be an Honorary Consultant contract from the Imperial College Healthcare or other NHS Trust).

A concise project outline should be submitted with the application accompanied by a full CV and publication list. Proposed projects should demonstrate clear potential for collaboration with at least one LMS research group. Shortlisted candidates will be introduced to potential LMS scientific mentors to discuss their research project. Candidates will be asked to submit a proposal of up to 3 pages before interview, which would usually be held within 2 months of short-listing.
