About the Role

Job Title: Group Head of Health, Safety and Environment
Department: Health and Safety
Location: Tavistock House, WC1H 9LG
Contract: Permanent (40 hours per week)
Salary range: up to £80,000 per annum, depending on experience

The Group Head of Health, Safety and Environment reports directly to the Director of Governance. The role provides strategic assurance and operational leadership to ensure the Group operates safely, compliantly and sustainably across all activities. The post holder will work in close partnership with key stakeholders to implement a consistent, aligned and robust HSE approach across the organisation.

  • The post holder manages the HSE team, championing best practice and ensuring compliance with ISO 14001.
  • They drive a strong safety culture throughout the business, with particular focus on pathology, and chemical and biological hazards.
  • The role requires excellent communication and influencing skills, the ability to work independently, multitask and manage cross‑functional relationships.
  • Travel to other UK sites may be required; hybrid working arrangements are available.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in Health, Safety and Environment within a healthcare setting, especially pathology.
  • Strong knowledge of HS&E regulations, ISO standards and environmental best practice.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, with a track record of fostering a safety‑first culture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organisation and build collaborative partnerships.
