The TDL laboratory is based with the Circle Blackheath Hospital, 5 minutes walk from the Blackheath overland station. The Laboratory provides the hospital with 24/7 onsite Biochemistry, Haematology, Coagulation, and Blood Transfusion services. Utilising the Hub and Spoke model, this laboratory also provides these services to 4 other Circle Hospitals in SE London and Surrey, using TDL Courier services, and the Haemonetics Blood track system and remote Haemobanks.
The opportunity has arisen for the appointment of Senior Biomedical Scientist (Blood Transfusion). The successful candidate should have extensive and demonstrated experience in managing an acute Blood transfusion service in a large, complex hospital environment. They will be responsible for maintaining the local service, ensuring compliance with MHRA, UKAS, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations (BSQR) and internal quality management systems, and ensuring safe and compliant service to the clients.
Duties include:
- Analysis, interpretation and technical validation of diagnostic analytical results, including troubleshooting technical problems.
- Validation and introduction of new techniques and equipment.
- Knowledge of maintaining an accredited service, including UKAS/MHRA/CQC registrations and IBMS training standards.
- Continuing professional development and training laboratory staff and assessing competence in all transfusion procedures including assessing initial competence.
- Demonstrated advanced quality assurance principles and practices.
The successful individual should be flexible, highly motivated and effective team player; methodical, have ability to understand and meet targets and deadlines and strong relationship building, negotiating and influencing skills. Where necessary, bench working patterns would be required to ensure business continuity, and for in-touch review of the service/departments. Participation in the out of hours on call rota may be required for which there is additional payments.
Qualification Requirement:
- Registration with HCPC as Biomedical Scientist and MSc in appropriate discipline such as Biomedical Science (or equivalent qualification e.g. IBMS HSD).
- Participation in a relevant CPD Scheme e.g. IBMS FIBMS would be advantageous.
