Salary: Dependent on experience

Required Experience: Significant production and general management experience in the commercial theatre industry, ideally in the West End and/or internationally.

Job Purpose: To line produce and provide general management services for Sonia Friedman Productions (SFP) in the UK and internationally, working closely with the Producer, Executive Producer, and General Managers to ensure the smooth, efficient, and financially responsible delivery of productions.

Responsibilities

  • General
  • Act as the key day-to-day contact for assigned production(s).
  • Represent SFP at internal and external meetings and events.
  • Liaise with creative teams, theatre staff, and Management to resolve production-related questions.
  • Maintain regular communication with Company Managers and production Managers.
  • Visit assigned productions regularly to provide support and oversight.
  • Support Company Managers in providing pastoral care to company members, including creatives, when required.
  • Scheduling and Planning
    • Oversee the planning and running of all periods of production in collaboration with the wider production team.
    • Draft and approve production schedules in collaboration with directors, designers, production Managers and SFP's Inventory & Sales department.
    • Oversee Opening Nights and special events for assigned productions.
  • Human Resources
    • Secure creative teams, associate creatives and key production staff.
    • Sign-off recruitment of Stage Management and production staff.
    • Manage casting processes in collaboration with the casting Director, including audition scheduling and attendance.
    • Be first point of contact for agents representing cast and creative teams.
    • Oversee the handling of sensitive workplace matters in line with company and union policies, ensuring appropriate resolution and supporting team welfare throughout.
    • Lead annual reviews with production staff where necessary.
  • Creative Liaison
    • Maintain open communication with directors, designers and other creatives as needed.
    • Schedule, attend and represent SFP at production meetings, ensuring clear communication across all departments.
  • Budgeting, Financial and Royalties Oversight
    • Prepare, manage and monitor production budgets.
    • Review and analyse production accounts as prepared by external accountants in a timely manner.
    • Prepare financial projections and circulate updated production accounts.
    • Review and approve weekly invoice and BACS payments.
    • Review and approve invoices and weekly payroll.
    • Operate within, review, and develop financial management systems.
    • Review and approve royalty statements and raise self-billing invoices for authors, creatives and cast.
  • Contract Negotiation and Drafting
    • Oversee the negotiation and/or negotiate all contracts for assigned production(s) including but not limited to co-producers, theatres, merchandise, cast, creatives, associate teams, and production teams.
    • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Business Affairs Department, mitigate financial risk by establishing robust and commercially sound contractual frameworks.
  • Contract Administration
    • Maintain and update contract databases.
    • Ensure colleagues are informed of relevant contractual clauses.
    • Review and agree third-party contracts as required.
  • Investment Responsibilities
    • Ensure accuracy and clarity in all investor-facing documentation.
    • Provide timely investor updates and reports in collaboration with the Executive Director and Business Affairs department.
  • Marketing Responsibilities
    • Coordinate with SFP's marketing & Sales Department, external agencies and press representatives on marketing strategy and output.
    • Attend marketing meetings and approve assets on behalf of SFP.
    • Provide full billing and contractual information for marketing, press and programmes.
    • Complete final checks on materials to ensure all contractual requirements are met.
  • Team and Office Support
    • Support new staff members with all of the above duties.
    • Cover other team members during leave or absence.
    • Provide regular updates to Sonia Friedman and the wider SFP company on relevant producing and GM activity.
    • Promote effective cross-departmental collaboration and clear channels of communication.
  • Compliance and Representation
    • Stay current with union agreements, trade terms and statutory requirements.
    • Adhere to health and safety procedures, SFP employment policies and promote best practice.
    • Attend SFP performances, meetings and events as needed (which may include some evening/weekend work).
    • Work collaboratively as part of a team, covering other staff during leave.
    • Attend international productions as required.
    • Maintain confidentiality around all commercial and sensitive matters.
    • Carry out other reasonable duties as required.
