The Role
The Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) operates and administers the wholesale electricity market across the island of Ireland. Working in a highly regulated environment, SEMO helps ensure that the market operates effectively and in line with its regulatory, licence and market obligations.

As a Compliance & Audit Analyst, you will play an important role in helping SEMO manage these obligations. You will coordinate compliance assessments and market audits, identify and monitor compliance risks, maintain clear records and provide meaningful reporting to support effective decision-making.

You will work with colleagues across the organisation as well as external auditors and other stakeholders. The role offers an opportunity to develop your experience across compliance, regulation, risk, audit and electricity markets while contributing to the continuous improvement of SEMO's compliance approach.

The Team
The Market Registration & Compliance team supports SEMO across market registration, compliance, audit and the management and development of the Trading and Settlement Code (TSC) and its Agreed Procedures (APs).

The team oversees SEMO's compliance with relevant licence and market obligations, coordinates market audits and supports the management of resulting actions. It also provides compliance risk and performance reporting and helps continuously improve SEMO's compliance framework

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and maintain assessments of SEMO's licence, Trading and Settlement Code and Agreed Procedure obligations.

• Work with colleagues across the business to gather evidence, assess compliance and address emerging issues.

• Identify, monitor and report compliance risks, issues and potential areas of non-compliance.

• Coordinate market audits, including planning, evidence gathering and engagement with internal stakeholders and external auditors.

• Track audit findings and agreed actions, supporting their remediation and closure.

• Prepare clear compliance, risk and performance reporting for senior management and relevant governance groups.

• Support the assessment and implementation of regulatory and electricity market changes.

• Contribute to SEMO's Compliance Maturity Model, which helps assess and improve the effectiveness of its compliance arrangements.

• Help improve compliance processes and embed regulatory requirements into processes and systems from the outset.

Critical Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:

• Degree in a relevant discipline and 3–5 years' relevant experience in compliance, audit, regulatory, governance, risk or a related role.

• A good understanding of compliance and audit principles and how they are applied in practice.

• Experience interpreting and working with regulatory, licence, contractual or similar obligations.

• Experience supporting or coordinating audits, assessments, findings or remediation activities.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret requirements, identify gaps and assess risk.

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate, timely work.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders and raise concerns constructively.

• Experience preparing clear and accurate reports or information to support management decision-making.

Desirable:

• Electricity markets, market codes or licence obligations.

• Another regulated industry or environment.

• Compliance maturity or assurance frameworks.

• Governance, risk, compliance or audit-management systems.

• Reporting and data visualisation tools such as Microsoft Power BI.

• A relevant degree or professional qualification, subject to SONI confirming this does not need to remain essential

This role operates within the SONI Company Agreement, which sets out core employment arrangements. In summary, this includes:

• Pay and Progression: Roles are aligned to a defined salary band, with progression based on experience, competence and performance.

• Hours, Shifts and Standby: Working hours reflect operational requirements and may include shift working or standby participation.

• Overtime and Allowances: Overtime and role‑related allowances may apply where additional or unsocial hours are worked.

• Leave Arrangements: Annual leave is provided alongside statutory holidays.

• Pension: Access to Company pension arrangements is available.

• Probation and Employment Conditions: Appointments are subject to a probationary period, with absence, performance and conduct managed in line with Company policies.
