About SONI

SONI is Northern Ireland’s Transmission System Operator, responsible for operating, developing and enhancing the electricity system and wholesale market across Ireland. Our focus is on safety, security, reliability, and the transformation towards a cleaner, cheaper, and more secure energy future.

The Role

This opportunity sits within EirGrid Group, which operates the all-island electricity grid. The Operations and Asset Management Directorate oversees real-time and near real-time system and market operations. We are seeking a Controller – Registration to join the Settlement, Stakeholder Engagement and Registration team. This role can be based in either Dublin or Belfast and will work collaboratively across EirGrid and SONI. In this role, you will support registration processes across multiple electricity markets (including SEMO, SEMOpx and the Capacity Market), coordinate day‑to‑day registration activities, respond to stakeholder queries, and work closely with colleagues to deliver key operational outputs. You will also play an important role in driving continuous improvement—identifying opportunities to enhance processes, supporting innovation, and contributing to transformational change across the Directorate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pre‑registration and registration processes for market participants
  • Manage and respond to registration‑related queries, prioritising effectively and providing solutions
  • Coordinate daily registration activities and deliverables with cross‑functional teams
  • Provide technical and process support within the registration function
  • Identify issues and recommend improvements, escalating where appropriate
  • Contribute to projects and initiatives representing the registration function
  • Analyse operational challenges and support the implementation of effective solutions
  • Ensure all outputs are delivered to a high standard, on time, and with a customer‑focused approach

Essential Qualifications

  • A relevant third‑level qualification or at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role (ideally within a regulated environment)
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions
  • High attention to detail and a quality‑focused mindset
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in electricity markets or the energy sector
  • Knowledge of SEMO, SEMOpx or Capacity Market processes
  • Experience in process improvement, change initiatives, or automation
  • Experience contributing to projects or cross‑functional workstreams
  • Strong reporting and presentation skills

Benefits

  • Play a vital role in shaping sustainable energy projects that benefit communities and the environment
  • Enjoy a competitive salary, performance‑related bonus, private medical cover, and pension matching
  • Benefit from flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options (3 days office / 2 days home)
  • Enhanced holidays, maternity and paternity leave and wellbeing days
  • Access salary sacrifice schemes (e.g., cycle to work, EV scheme), free car parking, onsite EV charging and complimentary lunch
  • Access professional development opportunities and clear career progression pathways
