We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our Product Development team and help bring the next generation of subsea technologies from concept through to deployment.
The Opportunity
This is a hands‑on, multidisciplinary engineering role where you will contribute to the successful delivery of innovative subsea products across the full development lifecycle. Working alongside Project Managers and specialist engineering teams, you will help coordinate and support projects from initial design and prototyping through to validation, manufacturing release, and customer delivery. The role offers a high level of variety and technical exposure, with opportunities to work across software, electronics, mechanical engineering, systems integration and product testing — including participation in real‑world sea trials at our Plymouth facility.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Support Project Delivery
- Work closely with Project Managers and engineering teams to support the delivery of projects aligned with Sonardyne’s product roadmap.
- Contribute to project planning, progress tracking and technical coordination activities.
- Support the successful delivery of projects ranging from approximately £50k to £2M in value.
- Coordinate Multidisciplinary Engineering Activities
- Collaborate across software, electronics, mechanical design, systems test, New Product Introduction (NPI), production, and product management teams.
- Help ensure smooth progression from design and development through to manufacturing release.
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination between technical disciplines.
- Testing & Validation
- Support product verification and validation activities including:
- Bench testing
- Environmental and stress testing
- In‑water testing and sea trials at the Plymouth trials facility
- Assist with system‑level integration activities to ensure hardware, firmware, and software perform reliably together.
- Technical Problem Solving
- Investigate and help resolve technical issues identified during development and testing activities.
- Work collaboratively with specialist engineers to support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Contribute to maintaining technical quality and project momentum throughout development.
- Documentation & Product Release Support
- Produce and maintain high‑quality technical documentation including:
- Interface specifications
- Test procedures and reports
- Manufacturing record books
- Product manuals and support documentation
- Support change control, risk management and quality assurance activities throughout the product lifecycle.
- Work closely with NPI and Manufacturing teams during product release and transition into production.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience supporting engineering design, product development, project delivery or product launch activities.
- Experience using laboratory electronic test equipment and diagnostic tools.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Aware of software or embedded systems development.
- Understanding of analogue and digital electronics principles.
- Aware of mechanical engineering concepts and design processes.
- Commercial awareness, including understanding of cost drivers and project considerations.
Qualifications
Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
