About the role

At Sonardyne, we design and manufacture some of the world’s most advanced underwater technology. But before our products head out into the world’s oceans, they need to be thoroughly tested, checked and proven to perform.

That’s where you come in!

We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Manufacturing Test Engineer to join our Production team at our Blackbushe headquarters.

This is a hands-on, technically varied role where you will be responsible for testing, diagnosing and fault-finding across our range of sophisticated electronic products, from individual components and printed circuit boards (PCBs) through to fully assembled systems.

You’ll be working with some genuinely exciting technology, ensuring everything we manufacture meets our high standards of quality, reliability and performance.

If you enjoy getting stuck into electronics, solving technical problems and finding out exactly why something isn’t working as it should, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

What you’ll be doing

As part of our Manufacturing team, you’ll play an important role in ensuring our products are tested thoroughly, accurately and efficiently before they leave our facility.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out electrical, electronic and tank testing throughout the manufacturing process, from component and PCB level through to chassis assemblies and finished products.
  • Diagnosing and resolving electronic faults, including component-level fault finding, adjustments and repairs.
  • Using a range of electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies and timer/counters.
  • Reading and interpreting circuit diagrams, engineering drawings, assembly drawings and technical documentation to support testing and fault diagnosis.
  • Identifying potential design, specification or manufacturing non-conformances and working with Production Engineering to resolve them.
  • Raising and documenting non-conformance reports, observations and engineering change requests in accordance with our Quality Management System.
  • Ensuring testing activities are completed to the required quality standards and within agreed production timescales wherever possible.
  • Maintaining accurate test records, results, calibration information and supporting documentation.
  • Supporting basic assembly activities when required to assist with testing and production requirements.
  • Using our ERP and internal IT systems to access technical information, check parts and support day-to-day manufacturing activities.
  • Working closely with colleagues across Production Engineering, Quality, Stores and Manufacturing to resolve technical issues and keep production moving.
  • Supporting fellow Test Engineers and the wider Manufacturing team whenever an extra pair of hands or some technical expertise is needed.

About you

We’re looking for someone who enjoys practical electronics and takes real satisfaction in diagnosing problems, finding solutions and getting things working properly.

You’ll have a good understanding of electronic principles, combined with hands-on testing and fault-finding experience.

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes pride in their work, pays attention to the finer details and understands why quality matters when you’re manufacturing technology designed to operate in demanding underwater environments.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • An HNC in Electronics, or an equivalent qualification in a relevant electronic discipline, supported by practical experience.
  • Proven experience of electronic testing and diagnostic fault finding down to component level.
  • Confidence using electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies and timer/counters.
  • The ability to read and understand electronic circuit diagrams, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • A methodical, logical approach to troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively within production schedules.
  • Competence using Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • A positive, flexible approach and the ability to work well with colleagues across different departments.

Experience working within an electronics manufacturing or production testing environment would be particularly valuable.
