As we continue to develop next-generation underwater systems, we are seeking a Project Manager to help shape and deliver our internal technology and product development programmes.
This role is responsible for leading engineering-led projects from concept through to completion, ensuring delivery against agreed technical, schedule, and budget objectives. The successful candidate will work across multidisciplinary engineering teams to drive structured execution, maintain project governance, and support the continuous improvement of Sonardyne's development processes.
A key focus of the role is the management of internally funded research and product development initiatives, ensuring effective progression through design, development, and delivery phases.
What You Will Be Doing
- Lead the delivery of research, technical development, and product development projects, ensuring outcomes are achieved on time, within budget, and to specification.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans covering scope, milestones, resources, risks, dependencies, and deliverables.
- Ensure clear definition and documentation of technical requirements and system specifications, working closely with engineering subject matter experts across software, hardware, electro-mechanical, and NPI disciplines.
- Manage project risks through structured identification, assessment, mitigation planning, and escalation where required.
- Coordinate cross-functional engineering resources to ensure effective project execution and delivery readiness.
- Facilitate internal governance and stage/gateway reviews, ensuring actions are tracked, managed, and completed.
- Communicate project status clearly and consistently to stakeholders at all levels.
- Lead structured project close-out activities, capturing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement across processes and delivery frameworks.

- Proven project management experience within technical or engineering-led environments.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results through cross-functional teams.
- Strong planning, scheduling, and organisational capability, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A flexible, adaptable approach to changing priorities and evolving project requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a structured, analytical mindset.
- Experience using Microsoft Project or equivalent planning tools.
Desirable Experience
- Engineering background or strong understanding of product development lifecycles.
- Familiarity with Jira, Agile delivery methods, or other structured development frameworks.
- Experience working within R&D, product development, or NPI environments.
Qualifications
Essential
- Formal project management qualification (APM, PMI or equivalent).

- Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline (BSc/BEng or equivalent).
