We’re a fast-growing, specialist lender focused on short-term property finance and development finance solutions. We are soon to be entering the BTL loan market as our business expands. Our mission is to provide fast, flexible, and reliable lending options to property professionals and investors across the UK. Following continued growth and the expansion of our underwriting team, we are now looking to appoint an experienced Real Estate Loan Underwriter to strengthen our credit function.
The Role
As a Real Estate Loan Underwriter, you will take ownership of underwriting bridging, development and BTL finance applications from initial assessment through to completion. You will work closely with the Head of Business and Head of Real Estate Credit to play a key role in lending decisions, risk management, and supporting the development of junior team members. You will need to demonstrate a variety of skills in working with different stakeholders across Operations, Legals, Credit, Sales, Risk and HR functions. The role will require a strong understanding of Credit Risk, Client Onboarding, Underwriting processes and frameworks. This role is suited to an individual who can operate autonomously, handle complex cases, and balance commerciality with credit discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently underwrite unregulated BTL, bridging & development finance loan applications
- Assess borrower profiles, credit history, property security, valuations, and exit strategies
- Follow processes to structure deals in line with lending criteria and risk appetite
- Review legal documentation, valuation reports, and due diligence packs
- Provide lending decisions within delegated authority and escalate cases where required
- Prepare and present lending proposals to Deal / Credit Committees, providing clear risk analysis and recommendations
- Liaise directly with clients, brokers, solicitors, valuers, and internal stakeholders to drive cases to completion
- Identify, assess, and mitigate lending risks
- Support, mentor, and provide guidance to junior underwriters and support staff
- Demonstrate exceptional organisational and administration skills
- Contribute to the ongoing development of underwriting processes and policies
- Ensure compliance with FCA requirements and internal governance standards
- Have a base level understanding of Sharia Finance
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience underwriting bridging & BTL finance and specialist property lending
- Strong knowledge of UK property markets and short-term lending structures
- Experience with both regulated and unregulated lending
- Confidence presenting cases to Deal or Credit Committees
- Confident assessing complex cases and non-standard transactions
- Excellent attention to detail and strong commercial judgement
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and broker relationship management experience
- Comfortable working with delegated lending authorities
Desirable
- CeMAP or equivalent qualification
- Experience supporting or mentoring junior underwriters
- Exposure to development finance or heavy refurbishment cases
- Understanding of Bridging underwriting
- Experience with Commercial & Semi Commercial BTL underwriting
- Credit committee presentation experience
