We are seeking a nearly qualified or qualified actuary to join the Corporate Reserving team for Sompo International. The successful candidate will report to a senior member of the Corporate Reserving team and assist with a range of Corporate Reserving activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with Quarterly Reserving Responsibilities
- Contribute to running the quarterly reserving process including assisting with data quality checks, peer review of IBNR selections
- Support the group Catastrophe Reserving process, including initial draft selections, drafting meeting materials, supporting ACE team queries, and liaising with claims and ceded teams.
- Support preparation of best practice reserve materials and outputs provided to key stakeholders, such as the CFO Reserve Meeting materials and Group Reserve Committee
- Lead MI production for monthly emergence reporting, including engaging with ACE and Claims teams, and distributing insights to management teams monthly.
- Support with maintenance of reserve platform
- Understand the workings of the "front end" of the reserve platform to be able to quickly implement selections and judgements
- Suggest and help to implement improvements to the platform
- Liaise with wider Sompo-wide initiatives to improve data quality
- Contribute towards developing automation capabilities within SRP, exploring the use of artificial intelligence and other newly emerging techniques to deliver cutting-edge reserving solutions
Reporting Lines
The role will report to a senior member of the Corporate Reserving team. The role will be supported by a dedicated reserving team based in London and New York and will also, sometimes, benefit from access to shared resources from across the Group reserving team.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- A newly qualified actuary with at least 4 years experience, preferably with strong exposure to reserving
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills, including a proven ability to build relationships with senior management and underwriting teams.
- The candidate must be well-organised, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines without compromising quality.
- Strong IT skills are required, including proficiency with the usual MS Office Products and some programming experience would be beneficial.
