Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Underwriter in our Wholesale Casualty team in our London Market business. Our Wholesale Casualty team provides solutions to international clients for complex exposures. Written on both an open market and delegated authority basis, we have clients in more than 20 countries. The core territories are Canada and Australia but we have a growing appetite to write business in Latin America and throughout the Middle East and Africa.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Underwrites all accounts in accordance with Underwriting Guidelines and individual authority granted by management.
  • Focus on Renewal Retention and New Business production in a growing profitable GL portfolio.
  • Production, the ability to work with key Brokers and develop Books of Business.
  • Monitors Industry and specific Account trends.
  • Implements an Underwriting Service reputation that is recognised as superior in the Industry.
  • Develop and maintain engagement plans with Brokers as appointed including management of relationships in terms of analysis, meetings and entertainment.
  • Create and utilise marketing materials and other product collateral to support marketing and production initiatives.
  • Provide technical input in Product Development.
  • Respond to general mid-term questions from Brokers and/or internal stakeholders in a timely and professional manner, delivering a first-class service and within authority parameters.
  • Interact with Brokers and other external parties including third party business providers, including the maintenance and development of good working relationships.
  • Contribute towards Underwriting services projects relating to the improvement of existing services.
  • Maintain timely and accurate risk, exposure and premium accounting in the company’s policy administration and documentation management systems.

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven Underwriting experience, minimum of 2-5 years.
  • Prior experience of Underwriting International Casualty exposures.
  • Able to work independently under their own initiative and as a part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - articulate and influential.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to organise efficiently.
  • Problem solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong analytical abilities with excellent logic and critical thinking skills.
