Sompo has a unique opportunity for a SVP, Head of International Casualty in our Casualty team in our Underwriting business.
Our International Casualty team provide solutions to clients globally for complex exposures. Written on both and open market and delegated authority basis, we have clients in more than 20 countries. The core territories are Canada and Australia but we have a growing appetite to write business in Latin America and throughout the Middle East and Africa. We have strong relationships with clients who look to partner with us on a long term basis. The portfolio is weighted towards primary and first excess layers.

What you’ll be doing:
- Managing the London Wholesale Casualty account, meeting achieveing KPIs for profitability and overall plan and any other KPIs allocated by executive management.
- A solid experience in underwriting Casualty within agreed decision making standards, limitations, and underwriting authority
- Regularly contribute to the analysis of the account by the actuarial and financial teams
- Ensure that all business written meets at least minimum standards of compliance and oversight.
- Ensure that rating models are up to date and used effectively.
- Ensure peer review carried out as appropriate.
- Assess desirability of risk through analysis of financial reports and accounts (as required); regular contact with broker; thorough review of proposal; and review of claims history and general company information
- Use designated Underwriting system(s) to streamline underwriting and information-tracking approach across Profit Centre. Input required data consistently and accurately as required.
- Proven track record of providing excellent service to brokers through consistent, timely, and proactive approach to Underwriting & business development.
- Exhibit sales orientated behaviors, defined by Management as: motivated, tenacious, production focused, technically skilled, proactive, and accountable.
- Generate new business by expanding broker network, attending broker events, and building new relationships across the market.
- Be responsible for meeting larger proportion of new business target(s).
- Provide excellent service to brokers through consistent, timely, and proactive approach to underwriting.
What you’ll bring:
- Experience in a similar underwriting or broking role, with in-depth knowledge of Lloyd’s Professional Indemnity markets
- Demonstrable track record of profitable transactions and generating business growth;
- Demonstrable experience in writing and executing underwriting business plans;
- Strong analytic skills and numerical aptitude essential;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong management and leadership skills, with particular emphasis on enabling the development of team members, and encourage ownership and responsibility for their individual tasks
- Ability to deal with challenge and think on their feet when dealing with senior stakeholders
- Needs to be highly organised and deadline focused
- Ability to independently develop and implement new methodologies
