Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Energy Liability Class Underwriter in our Marine & Energy Liability team in our Marine, Energy & Aviation Global Markets business.

With a wealth of experience across all key sectors of the Marine and Energy market, our team offers a range of insurance solutions to for Marine and Energy businesses.

Our London based team underwrites complex and diverse risks across the globe in a pragmatic and consistent way and looks to forge long-term and sustainable partnerships. Backed by Sompo International’s exceptional financial strength, we offer significant capacity, with a dedicated risk engineering, energy claims handling capability and underwrite business through our company platforms in the UK and Continental Europe.

Location: This position will be based out of our London office currently at Minster Court. We will be moving to new offices at40 Leadenhall Street in January, 2026. We strive for collaboration which is why we offer a work environment where our employees thrive and develop long lasting careers.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Setting the strategy for Energy Liability in our London team.
  • Leveraging the existing Marine & Energy portfolio to enhance our broker and client relationships leading to growth of the Energy Liability class of business.
  • Interacting with brokers and other external parties including third party business providers, to maintain and develop good working relationships.
  • Maintaining timely and accurate risk, exposure and premium accounting in the company’s policy administration and documentation management systems.
  • Working with pricing actuaries to develop robust pricing models.
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial and other types of analysis to support the underwriting team and senior management team requirements.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organise efficiently.
  • Strong work ethic with an ability to operate effectively under pressure.
  • Flexible approach and ability to recognise and adapt to changing business requirements.
  • Strong numeracy and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • A team player with an enthusiastic interest in the Marine & Energy industries.
