Sompo has a unique opportunity for an experienced Power and Utilities Underwriter in our UK based Energy team.

Our experienced Energy team, backed by Sompo’s financial strength, offers comprehensive underwriting across the entire Energy chain; from oil and gas extraction and refining, to emerging renewable energy solutions. Operating from the UK, we provide tailored products and significant capacity. As a one stop shop for all Energy business, we also have the flexibility to integrate liability, marine cargo, terrorism, and professional lines products, enabling the development of programmes that are customised specifically to clients’ ever-changing needs.

Location: This position will be based out of our London office.

Our business, your impact, our opportunity:

What you’ll be doing:

  • The role will initially focus on supporting the Power and Utility sub-class. The short-term goal will be to develop the book of business, whilst additionally supporting the broader onshore energy team
  • Underwriting role within a growing c.$300m Energy portfolio
  • Full and thorough underwriting of all accounts in accordance with underwriting guidelines and individual authority granted by management
  • Responsibilities will include growing the Power and Utility book of business and further enhancing the Sompo brand within the Energy market
  • Provide technical input in product development and underwriting strategy
  • Liaise with Global Markets offices to assist with regional energy initiatives in locations such as Europe, Singapore and Brazil
  • Represent Sompo at broker & client meetings and market events
  • Monitor all industry and specific account trends. Implementing a field service reputation that is recognized as superior in the industry
  • Create and utilise marketing material to support marketing and production initiatives

What you’ll bring:

  • A minimum of 7 years relevant underwriting experience (with authority).
  • Experience and specific technical knowledge of underwriting global Power placements
  • Strong problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Confidence to innovate to challenge the norm
  • Ability to work effectively in a pressured environment
  • Appetite and hunger to learn and grow
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop long-term client relationships
  • Ability to collaborate and positively interact within a team environment
