We're looking for a hands-on Management Accountant to cover a period of maternity leave. This is a broad, ownership-heavy role in a fast-moving, startup environment - you'll be the day-to-day engine of the finance function, keeping our numbers accurate, our reporting sharp, and our cash carefully managed. You’ll thrive here if you’re comfortable operating with autonomy, rolling up your sleeves, and moving quickly without losing rigour. You’ll work closely with the wider finance and leadership team and have real influence over how we understand and grow the business.
Contract: Fixed-term maternity cover (approximately 12 months)
Location: Fully remote (UK-based)
Reports to: CFO
Key Responsibilities
- Month-end & financial reporting — Own the month-end close process end to end, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations, delivering accurate management accounts to a tight timetable.
- Year End – Preparation of year end accounts in line with statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Financial control — Maintain robust financial controls and reconciliations across the ledgers, ensuring the integrity of the balance sheet.
- Manage the day-to-day bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, and banking within Xero.
- Cashflow management — Contribute to cashflow forecasting and reporting, monitoring working capital, runway and liquidity, and flagging risks and opportunities early.
- Manage payment runs, supplier relationships and credit control to keep cash moving efficiently.
- Business partnering — Support budgeting, forecasting and business partnering, providing the numbers and analysis leadership needs to make decisions.
- Compliance — Assist with VAT returns and US sales tax returns, payroll inputs and year-end audit preparation, liaising with external accountants and auditors as needed.
- Process improvement — Continuously improve finance processes, controls and reporting as the business scales.
What we're looking for
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience.
- Proven experience in a startup or high-growth environment, comfortable with ambiguity, pace and wearing multiple hats.
- Strong, demonstrable knowledge across financial control, financial reporting and cashflow management.
- Hands-on proficiency with Xero (essential).
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence handling and interrogating data.
- Excellent attention to detail, well organised, and able to manage your own workload and deadlines while working remotely.
- A proactive, commercially-minded communicator who can translate numbers into insight for non-finance colleagues.
Nice to have
- Experience in FMCG, food & beverage or a physical-product business.
- Exposure to inventory accounting and multi-channel (DTC + wholesale/retail) reporting, including USA sales tax reporting.
- Familiarity with tools that integrate with Xero (e.g. inventory, expense or payments platforms).
What we offer
- 12 months Full-time employment at a fully remote organisation with a friendly ambitious team.
- A genuinely broad, autonomous role with real ownership of the finance function.
- The chance to make a tangible impact building an exciting, emerging DTC brand during a key period.
- Remote based role with 1-4 days per month in-person, in London (travel + co-work space expenses paid).
- Monthly phone allowance.
- Monthly work-from-home allowance.
- Cycle to Work Scheme eligibility.

- We accept we don't know it all. We explore, and we're excited to discover.
- We treat inward-facing curiosity as the spotlight for personal growth.
- We act with courage.
- We challenge the norms. We may fail, we will learn, and we go again.
- We adapt constantly, to ourselves and to our environment.
- We think abundantly (there are always many options) rather than scarcely.
- We consume consciously.
- Everything is finite. We are rigorous about using our resources efficiently.
