Job Title: Community Cricket Coach

Contract: 2 Year – Fixed Term

Hours: Flexible, min 37 hours per week including some evenings & weekends

Salary: £24,500 to £26,500 per annum

Location: Somerset

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and engaging coach to join our team to help drive cricket forward and inspire more people to experience cricket in Somerset.

It is an exciting time to be involved in cricket and there is a huge opportunity within Somerset to to get more children and young people to say, ‘Cricket is a game for me’.

Together with Chance to Shine we want to make cricket the sport of choice for people within Somerset.

The role will focus on increasing opportunities for pupils to play and compete in the school and club setting. A significant part of the role will be to support and develop cricket clubs to prepare them for an anticipated migration of pupils from local schools. The post is supported by Chance to Shine.

The post holder will be expected to deliver and achieve in the following areas:

Manage And Deliver Cricket Coaching Within Primary Schools

  • Deliver high quality and inspiring cricket sessions to school children throughout the year.
  • Develop lasting relationships with schools and teachers to embed a culture of cricket in schools in Somerset.
  • Deliver cricket coaching sessions and festival style cricket competitions at cricket clubs to promote pupil migration from schools to cricket clubs.
  • Deliver formal and informal teacher training to leave a legacy of cricket in Somerset.
  • Support and lead on local and county rounds of the Dynamos Schools Countdown Cricket competitions.

Manage and deliver cricket activities within secondary schools

  • Deliver high quality and inspiring cricket sessions to school children throughout the year.
  • Develop the next generation of leaders and coaches who are confident in delivering cricket through leadership courses.
  • Inspire and support teachers through formal and informal training to raise the quality and quantity of cricket delivery in secondary schools.
  • Promote local cricket clubs and run sessions at local clubs to aid transition.
  • Establish a calendar of inter school events and inspire teachers and pupils to play an active role within these.
  • Deliver table cricket within mainstream and SEN schools, promoting and supporting the Table Cricket County Finals.

Support the development of local cricket clubs

  • Drive the development and growth of cricket clubs in Somerset.
  • Play an active role in supporting the existing women’s and girls’ sections at clubs and inspiring other clubs to develop theirs.
  • Support clubs with their All Stars, Dynamos and other junior activities.

Play an important role in making communities in Somerset more active

  • Support the Super 1s hub with taster sessions in mainstream and SEN schools along with delivering at the Super 1s sessions.
  • Engage with local partners to set up new/support existing activities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support coach development.
  • Deliver on the SCF school holiday coaching programme.
  • Support other SCF coaching programmes.
  • Continually develop to ensure that delivery is of the highest possible standard.

Strategic targets of the role

The success of the role will be subject to the community coach meeting a number of key strategic targets set out by Chance to Shine and the SCF.

  • A minimum of seventy hours of coaching delivery per month (as an average across the year).
  • To maintain positive working relationships with targeted clubs and schools.
  • Increase the number of primary and secondary schools in Somerset entering SCF competitions.
  • Growth in female and junior cricket activity.

Experience/knowledge, Skills, Attributes And Behaviours Required

Experience / Knowledge of:

  • Working in a school and/or club environment.
  • Working as part of a team and independently.
  • The Chance to Shine charity and their programmes.
  • Coaching different ages and genders.
  • Working with volunteers and community groups.
  • Delivering competitions and festivals.

Skills:

  • Minimum of a Level 2 Cricket Coaching qualification.
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to build genuine relationships.
  • Excellent IT skills including advanced ability with Word, Excel, Outlook and other Microsoft programmes.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in a variety of formats (eg. Face to face, phone and email).

  • Ability to travel independently between sites (full and valid UK driving license and access to a car – desirable).
