What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. As the Initial Teacher Training – Lead Officer you will be working closely with the Responsible Officer, ITT and training. You will oversee the coordination, development and promotion of the Initial Teacher Training (ITT) Programmes and be providing high quality teaching and assessments, contributing to the continuous development of teaching, learning and assessment standards.

Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Acting as a lead mentor to support staff development and share best practices.
  • Supporting the recruitment and admission process for new students, including interviews and initial assessments.
  • Participating in promotional events and contributing to the development of publicity materials.
  • Delivering teaching and assessment activities and assisting in timetabling and resource allocation within the department.
  • Developing and promoting ITT programmes to attract and retain students.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

You will need:

  • A recognised teaching qualification and a degree in education, or a related field.
  • An understanding of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programmes and their requirements.
  • Experience in teaching, assessment and leadership within an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team.

Please note, this role requires travel within the local area for school visits, meetings and recruitment, engagement and promotion activities.

The Salary for the role is Grade 8 - £47,754 per annum.
