Role details

This role is largely outside in all weather conditions. The primary work location is County Hall, Taunton.

30 days\’ annual leave (in addition to bank holidays).

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. As a Car Parking Inspector, you will be playing an essential role in maintaining the high standards of our parking facilities by ensuring the safety, functionality and condition of car parks within Somerset.

Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Conducting regular inspections and identifying the need for works and repairs.
  • Responding to reports of dangerous conditions, vandalism as well as requests and complaints from the public. Following these inspections, recommending repairs and future maintenance improvements.
  • Working closely with the Parking Asset Maintenance Technician to establish priorities and review programmes of work.

We recognise the importance of a good balance between work and home life, so we do everything we can to accommodate flexible working, including working from home, with agreement from the manager.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making skills with the ability to conduct thorough inspections and identify maintenance needs.
  • An understanding of parking regulations and maintenance practices as well as knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • A full Driver’s License.
