Overview

Building Surveyor role at Somerset Council. Hybrid Working (based at County Hall, at home and with regular travel to sites). Employment contract: Permanent.

What will I be doing?

The role is an integral position within the Property Department. Each surveyor is responsible for approximately 35 non-housing establishments within a specific part of the County. You will be carrying out surveys and inspections to identify and diagnose the required responsive repairs and preparing specifications for tender of planned maintenance works ranging in value from £5,000 to £500,000 for a single project.

  • Prepare work schedules and draft specifications.
  • Instruct contractors to undertake a broad range of building maintenance across Somerset.
  • Play a key role in repairing and improving built assets to maximise efficiency, modernise services and achieve better outcomes for service users and customers.

Experience and qualifications

  • Strong up-to-date knowledge of core building surveying tasks involving project management, procurement and compliance.
  • Clear understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements relating to construction works, including CDM health and safety legislation.
  • Qualified in a relevant and recognised discipline with extensive knowledge of building construction, defects and maintenance management.
  • Positive and flexible ‘can-do’ attitude, with the ability to work independently.
