Advanced Practitioner Social Worker (Safeguarding Adults)
Somerset Council is hiring for an Advanced Practitioner Social Worker (Safeguarding Adults). There are two opportunities: – A permanent position – A 12-month maternity cover (FTC) Please indicate which post you are expressing interest in. The role can be based in Taunton or Yeovil.
Location: Taunton or Yeovil
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Salary: Starting £41,771 rising annually to £46,142 (new rate following the pay award)
Overview: An opportunity for an experienced practitioner to lead and develop practice within safeguarding teams, with a focus on empowering adults to live independently and safely in their communities.
What you will be doing
- Utilise extensive skills and experience to guide your team in supporting and empowering Somerset residents to remain independent and safe.
- Tailor solutions to the needs of individuals and provide continuity of support throughout safeguarding experiences.
- Promote independence and inclusion in all activities of the team.
- Collaborate with Health and Social Care colleagues to achieve the best outcomes.
- Liaise with key partners to improve provision of services, team training and recruitment.
Team and culture: A small, close-knit service with a strong learning culture that supports practitioner growth and development. The team values respect, social justice, compassion, and empowerment.
Responsibilities and leadership
- Advanced Practitioners must lead decision-making, model best practice, and develop the practice of others.
- Lead and support safeguarding decision processes and practice development within the team.
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training, and guidance. To be successful, you will need:
- Registered social worker with Social Work England with an enhanced continuous development record.
- Experience at an advanced social work level.
- Autonomy in decision-making for adult safeguarding situations.
- A strong sense of social justice and a strengths-based social work approach.
- Solid knowledge of legal literacy within social care.
- Access to, or use of, a vehicle is an essential requirement for this role.

Additional information: Full or part-time hours can be considered depending on team and location. This is a Grade 9 post with a current starting salary of £41,771 rising to £46,142 per annum. Appointments are normally made at the bottom of the salary scale.
