The Junior Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of projects that contribute to Somerset Care's strategic priorities. Working within the PMO, the role helps ensure projects are well organised, effectively governed, and delivered in line with agreed scope, timescales, and resources. We are looking for someone who is able to support the projects team for 2 days per week. The role provides practical project management support across a range of workstreams, including operations, finance, property, and people initiatives. It is a developmental role, offering exposure to structured project delivery, governance, and stakeholder engagement, with increasing responsibility over time.

Key Accountabilities

What are the main areas this role is accountable for?

  • Project Coordination & Support: Supports the coordination of project activities, resources, schedules, and information, helping Project Leads to deliver work in a structured and controlled way.
  • Planning, Tracking & Reporting: Maintains project plans, trackers, and documentation, monitors progress against milestones and prepares updates and reports in line with the PMO governance framework.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitates effective communication between project team members, stakeholders, and external partners, ensuring information is shared clearly and consistently.
  • Risk, Issue & Dependency Management: Identifies and logs risks, issues, and dependencies, supporting Project Leads to analyse impacts, propose mitigations, and escalates where required.
  • Governance & Documentation: Produces and maintains governance documentation, including meeting packs, action logs, decision records, and reports, ensuring compliance with PMO standards.
  • Continuous Improvement & Development: Contributes to the optimisation and transformation programme by supporting agreed principles, learning from delivery experience, and developing project management capability over time.

Skills and Competence, Experience and Knowledge, Qualifications and Training

Essential:

  • Organised and methodical approach to work.
  • Strong numerical, written, verbal, and listening skills.
  • Ability to engage positively with people at different levels of the organisation.
  • Confidence using IT systems and digital tools, with willingness to develop further.
  • Ability to work calmly and flexibly in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Professional integrity and respect for confidentiality.
  • Basic understanding of project management principles.
  • Awareness of the role and purpose of a Programme Management Office (PMO).
  • Ability to apply existing experience and learning to a project environment.
  • Good general level of education, including GCSE pass level (C/4) in Maths and English, or equivalent.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training.
